The US Embassy in Greece has issued a notice to American citizens warning them of planned pro-Palestinian rallies in Athens and Thessaloniki on Friday and Saturday, October 13-14, 2023.
The demonstration in Eleftherias Park in Athens will begin on Friday at 18:00, with the intention of marching to the Israeli Embassy in Psychiko.
A rally in Thessaloniki at the statue of Eleftherios Venizelos is planned for Saturday at 12 noon.
The US Embassy recommends actions that American citizens in Athens and Thessaloniki should take. These include:
- Reconsider your travel plans.
- Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place.
- Use caution if you unexpectedly find yourself near crowded areas or protests.
- Check your local media for updates.
- “Keep your head down.”
- It is recommended to monitor the latest information about the demonstrations through local media.
The previous rally took place on October 9 on Kifisias Avenue, opposite the Israeli Embassy.
There were no incidents, although the police provided more than 100 MAT special forces officers and a special water cannon in case of unrest or an attack on the embassy.
