Metro: three new stations in Western Attica

The time has come for the second stage of the tender conducted by the Greek Metro and concerning the extension of the second line of the city subway.

While work on the construction of Line 4 continues, conditions are ripe for another metro project that will give the residents of Western Attica a “breathe.” This is the extension of Line 2 to Ilion, a project with a budget of 550 million euros and a duration of 57 months, that is, 4 years and 9 months from the signing of the contract.

Let us remind you that the companies TERNA, ABAX, INTRAKAT, AKTOR-MYTILINEOS have expressed interest, and now the countdown is on until the start of the second stage of the tender, which concerns the submission of technical and then financial proposals, with the aim of selecting a contractor and the appearance of the first construction sites.

The extension of the Red Line to Western Attica includes a 4 km line and three new stations: Palatiani, Ilion and Agios Nikolaos. Palatiani station is located at the intersection of Thevon and Andreas Papandreou streets and has 2 entrances on each side of the street.

Ilion station is located at the intersection of Thevon and Eleion streets, has 2 entrances on both sides of Thebes street and a facility for connecting/transferring passengers with the station of the same name for the future extension of line 4 to Petroupolis.

The Agios Nikolaos station is located near a section of the street of the same name and part of a landscaped green area located between Paramythia, Olynthos, Zitsis and Ag. Nikolaou.

The contract even includes the expansion of the Eleonas warehouse on an adjacent 20-acre site on the corner of Agia Anna and Pieria streets, which is currently occupied mainly by warehouses of the former Athens paper mill and other properties.

Handing over the project to passengers will mean a reduction in travel time from central Athens to Western Attica (and vice versa), as the Ilion-Syntagma route is estimated to take 20 minutes and Ilion-Omonia in 15 minutes.
