First "birthday" celebrates the metro in Piraeus

A year has passed since the metro line leading to the Municipal Theater in Piraeus began operating.

It was on October 10, 2023 that the opening of the extension of line 3 from Nikia to the Municipal Theater took place. At a ceremony held at DIMOTIKO THEATRO station, the “ribbon” was cut, which added three new metro stations and “placed” Piraeus at the center of the metropolitan network. The city underground served a total of:

  • 1,079,659 passengers per year at Maniatika station, and 98,151 passengers per month,
  • Piraeus station – 2,143,554 passengers per year, and 194,869 passengers per month,
  • The Municipal Theater station had a capacity of 3,355,363 passengers per year and a monthly capacity of 258,205 passengers.

A total of 5.5 million passengers used the three new stations.

According to many, the expansion of the Piraeus metro is the most important development of the Athens network in the last 20 years.
