Large-scale attack from the Gaza Strip, Israel declares readiness for war

Israeli territory has been fired at by hundreds of rockets from the Gaza Strip, and a special situation has been introduced in the center and south of the country. There are wounded and one dead.

Hamas militants attacked Israel with rockets, and an “unspecified number of terrorists” entered the country. Yoav Galant, the country’s defense minister, ordered a “special security situation” in central and southern Israel amid Saturday morning rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip. The press service of the Ministry of Defense reports:

“Following an assessment of the situation together with the leadership of the Israeli defense structures, Defense Minister Yoav Galant announced a “special security situation” in the Israeli rear within a radius of 0 to 80 km from the Gaza Strip. This status allows the Israel Defense Forces to provide citizens with security guidance and close necessary facilities.”

The territory within a radius of up to 80 km, in addition to the southern regions of the country immediately adjacent to the Gaza Strip, also covers the central part of Israel with Tel Aviv and its suburbs, as well as Jerusalem and several areas of the Negev Desert, including the city of Beersheba.

Earlier, it was officially confirmed that rockets were being fired at Israeli territory from the Palestinian enclave. In many areas of the country, including Tel Aviv and its environs, continuous alarms are heard. The Israeli army announced a “state of readiness for war”; the country’s defense minister approved the recruitment of reservists into the army.

The Times of Israel writes: “The unprecedented surprise attack by terrorists from the Gaza Strip began with hundreds of rockets fired at Israel.” The photographs published by the publication indicate that “dozens of Palestinian terrorists are entering Israel from Gaza,” including in trucks.

At least 16 people, according to Israeli doctors, were injured. Two of them are in critical condition. One woman died.
