Get yourself… "smart House"

The “Smart Buildings/Housing” platform (“Έξυπνα Κτίρια”, Smart Readiness) has been opened. Applications for vouchers are submitted on the electronic platform until June 30, 2025.

The goal of the social program is to improve the quality of the country’s existing building stock through the creation of a modern digital infrastructure that will facilitate the transformation of buildings into “smart” ones and their interconnection with smart utility meters. The goals of the program are:

  • Promoting the provision of ultra-high-speed broadband Internet services, a sector in which Greece occupies last place among member countries EU.
  • Preparation for the installation of smart utility meters (electricity, natural gas) without the need for significant additional work on the part of utility network operators.
  • Preparation for installation and transfer of relevant sensors related to safety, health monitoring and measurements related to the environmental impact of the main common areas of buildings (such as the central heating boiler room and the elevator).

“Smart Buildings”: beneficiaries of the program
Eligible buildings are single-family and multi-family buildings, subject to the following general conditions:

  1. They are in the area that is designated for participation in the program.
  2. They don’t yet have internal optical fiber wiring.

Buildings owned by the state, public legal entities and private legal entities of the public sector are not eligible to participate in the promotion and are excluded from it..

Smart Buildings: Acceptable Actions and Costs

As part of the project, work is being carried out to create infrastructure that will facilitate the transformation of the building into a “smart” one, as well as the connection of new “smart” meters for utility networks (electricity, natural gas). In particular, within the framework of the campaign, work is subsidized, including:

  • installation of fiber optic networks inside the building to facilitate the provision of ultra-high-speed broadband Internet access services in all areas of the building (apartments, offices, shops, etc.).
  • installation of infrastructure for the future connection of utility meters (electricity, natural gas) with a central point – the electronic communication infrastructure of the building.
  • installation of infrastructure for the future connection of the central heating boiler room and the elevator engine room.

The categories of work include the following:

  1. Installation of a vertical fiber optic cabling system within a building, including installation of a BEP (building entry point), one FB (floor box) per floor and vertical cabling connecting the BEP to the FB, as well as wires connecting the BEP to the provider (boundary line access or next to her). The vertical fiber optic cable system must provide broadband services at a speed of at least 1 Gbit/s without the need for additional work other than the construction of a horizontal fiber optic communication line for horizontal connection.
  2. Electricity meter interconnection, which involves laying out a network to connect the electricity metering area to the building’s central electronic communications infrastructure system.
  3. Natural gas meter connection, which involves installing piping to connect the natural gas meter area to the building’s central electronic communications system.
  4. Central heating boiler room connection, which involves constructing a pipeline to connect the central heating boiler area to the building’s central electronic communications system.
  5. Elevator machine room connection, which involves constructing a pipeline to connect the elevator engine room to the central node of the building’s electronic communications infrastructure system.
In order for a building to receive funding under the program, it must complete work that meets item A, and in addition, at least one of the tasks that meets any of elements B through E.

As part of the promotion, it is planned to subsidize part of the costs of work corresponding to the above work. The total amount of assistance per building is determined based on the number of floors, types and categories of work performed.

The grant is issued only once per building. Expenditures supported under the program cannot be supported by any other source, national or European.

Procedure for including a beneficiary in the program
In order for a building to join the program, the building manager must complete the following steps:

  • The property administrator checks on the applicable program website to see if the building is within the program area.
  • If the building is in a designated area and meets the criteria, the manager can view a directory of installers who are registered in the program’s installer registry and active in their area, as well as their contact information.
  • The administrator contacts the installer of his choice. The specialist visits the building, determines exactly the scope of work that needs to be done, and presents his proposal to the administrator.
  • Once the offer is accepted by the manager, the installer must apply for a voucher.
