A mine was discovered in Kavala, 50 meters from the Karyani beach

An explosive device, possibly a mine, was discovered in Kavala, in the sea area of Karyani beach.

This was reported to the Kavala port administration on Sunday. The ammunition was located on a rocky bottom, at a depth of about one and a half meters and at a distance of about fifty meters from the shore.

The Kavala Central Port Authority has informed the competent authorities, writes CNN Greece.

Earlier we told how a fisherman in Messinia discovered a mine at three meters depth. The fisherman immediately reported the dangerous find to the authorities, and the competent service was informed from the Pylos port authority. An identification mark has been installed at the location of the mine until emergency measures are taken.

Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Romanian, Bulgarian and Turkish military diving teams are clearing mines drifting in Black Sea waters. Since February last year, divers have destroyed five mines in the area of responsibility of the Romanian Navy.
