99-year-old Gregor Formanek, a guard at the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, was charged

In a small town in western Germany, 99-year-old former guard of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, 99-year-old Gregor Formanek, is living out his life. German prosecutors brought charges against him for involvement in 3,300 murders.

A pastry chef by training, Formanek was born into a German family in Romania. In July 1943, he joined the SS and until the end of the war was a guard at the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, located near Berlin.

In 1947, a Soviet military court sentenced him to 25 years in prison. He served 10 years in the Bautzen prison. He is accused of “crimes against humanity” and “espionage.” Sun reporters recently tracked down and photographed the pensioner, but he flatly refused to contact representatives of the British media.

A few weeks ago, German prosecutors brought new charges against Formanek for involvement in 3,300 murders in Sachsenhausen. The court must decide whether to open proceedings against him. One of the plaintiffs may be 96-year-old Simon Rothschild, writes Bild, who went through the agony of medical experiments in a concentration camp.

Experts say Formanek’s legal capacity is limited. In all likelihood, he will be the last guard from Sachsenhausen to answer for his actions. An investigation is currently underway against four people who served the fascist government, writes BB.LV.
