This morning, September 13, a fire broke out in a bus in the square of Agios Ioannis Rentis district ΟΑΣΑ.
Passengers were immediately evacuated. Fire services arrived at the scene. The fire was extinguished without harming anyone. There are currently four specialist vehicles and 12 firefighters on the scene. Passengers and the driver were evacuated, there were no injuries.
A video of a burning bus near an intersection in the city center has gone viral on social media.
“At the time of the fire, the driver stopped the vehicle, unloaded people and left the cabin,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement. An audit is being carried out to assess compliance with legal requirements for the safe transportation of passengers. “If there are grounds, the prosecutor’s office will decide whether to take action,” the message emphasizes.
