In 5-10 years, transgender people will be able to have children

In Britain, they successfully performed the most difficult 17-hour operation to transplant the uterus. In the near future, men will also be able to become pregnant, bear a fetus and give birth, scientists assure.

About the appearance of such an opportunity in a few years writes edition of the Daily Mail, talking about a unique operation performed on a 34-year-old woman. She is devoid of a uterus from birth, but has ovaries. This made it possible to extract the eggs and artificially fertilize them using IVF. But… without a uterus, she would not be able to bear a child. The donor of this organ was her sister, who already has children – she decided to give the woman her uterus.

Noting the success of this complex operation, one of the surgeons involved in the transplant said that now men will be able to give birth, but “these patients will have to wait another five to ten years.”

The doctor also noted that although British law obliges physicians to provide equal care to men, women and transgender people, surgeons are not yet quite ready for this. Professor Smith of the Medical College London, who took part in the operation, says:

“We are well aware that the 2010 Gender Equality Act requires equal treatment of cisgender and transgender women, but in this case purely technical feasibility is required. that we will go to this from 10 to 20 years.
