Iran: realtor arrested after selling house to dog who sealed deal with paw

A still from the video where the real estate agent “burned out”

The head of a real estate agency is arrested after it turned out that at the time of signing a contract with a dog, the realtor used the dog’s paw print instead of a signature.

In a viral video circulating on social media, a Shih Tzu dog named Chester is seen being forced to… sign a contract with his paw. The owners even claim that he is the sole heir, which is why they transferred ownership to him …

As can be clearly seen in the footage, Chester put his paw on the inkwell and, with the help of a woman who was standing in front of the table, put his signature. The dog’s owner says the couple “didn’t have any heirs and wanted to hand over the apartment to the dog.”

There is no law in Iran banning dog ownership, but like many Muslim countries, they are considered unclean. Conservative clerics advise against keeping them as pets.

On Sunday, August 20, according to the ISNA news agency, “the police launched an investigation.” “The police arrested the head of the real estate office and closed the company on Saturday,” according to the judicial website Mizan Online, citing Deputy Attorney General Reza Tabar. According to Tabar, the sale is aimed at “normalizing the violation of the moral values of society and has no legal basis.”

In recent years, many Iranians, especially those of the upper and middle classes, have adopted pets, usually dogs and cats.
