The Greek Ministry of Defense will be distributing tablets to conscripts as part of a program to “enhance the digital skills of the military.” The cost of 10,000 tablets is estimated to be more than 56 million euros, i.e. more than 5,600 euros per tablet, excluding VAT.
The initial announcement of the purchase was made even before the appointment of Defense Minister Nikos Dendias to this post, that is, before the July elections.
A number of opposition media and military news sites are awaiting an official statement explaining “this waste of public money,” documentonews.gr notes. So far it hasn’t been.
“The total cost is 56,763,692.00 euros! That is 5,676 euros for each tablet. While a very good tablet retails for about 500 euros,” notes the Sunday newspaper.
Considering also the cost of training on these “super-tablets”, the newspaper adds: “ELIC computer training and the required certification cost between 100 and 300 euros, depending on the number of days of training. They teach much more than how to work with a tablet (word, excel, etc.). d.).
There is also a difference whether to pay these expenses to an individual or an army for thousands of students. Let’s say training costs 200 euros, and 100,000 soldiers will be trained.
So we have: 500 X 10,000 = 5,000,000 and 200 X 100,000 = 20,000,000. The total cost is 25 million euros.
“In other words, in order for the cost of the purchase to have at least some sense, the order” lacks “more than 31 million euros,” the newspaper emphasizes.
It should be noted that some Greeks on social networks have searched superplates and noted that the most expensive tablet they found cost €3,500 including VAT.
Evil tongues say that Nikos Dendias was so influenced by communication with Alexei Reznikov, who repeatedly accused of corruption. However, even more evil tongues say that it is not known who else could teach this to whom.
