In Makhachkala, 30 dead and 105 injured from an explosion at a gas station (video)

A powerful explosion at a gas station in Makhachkala claimed the lives of at least 30 people, including two children. More than 105 injured, the search continues for people under the rubble.

How writes Air Force, referring to the preliminary data of the investigation, the explosion occurred in a car service building near the Globus shopping center. The cause of the explosion is being specified. Local authorities claim that the site of the original explosion is opposite the gas station. Head of the Republic of Dagestan Sergey Melikov says:

“From this point of the explosion, the containers opposite the standing gas station detonated, resulting in a fire and a fire.”

Two out of ten LPG tanks exploded at a gas station. The fire area around the gas station was 500 sq.m.

According to the authorities, the explosion occurred around 21:50 at the intersection of Kulinskaya Street and the Federal Highway in the village of Novokuli at the exit from Makhachkala. The site of the original explosion was believed to be in a car service.

The press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for Dagestan reported that the fire after the explosion at the gas station was localized. A little later, the fire was completely extinguished, says the head of the main department of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for Dagestan, Nariman Kazimagamedov:

“At 01:00 Moscow time, the complete elimination of the fire, now the structure is being shed, there are enough personnel and equipment.”

The Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case. The regional prosecutor’s office finds out how carefully the requirements of the legislation on fire and industrial safety were observed. August 15 is declared a day of mourning in the republic.
