Greek Hellenic Defense Systems is negotiating the production of ammunition for Ukraine

Greece is negotiating with international ammunition manufacturers to participate in the 155-mm projectile production program, to jointly produce ammunition for Ukraine and EU.

Edited by Kathimerini reported about this sources in the company Hellenic Defense Systems. According to them, the negotiations are held in absolute secrecy and are at a fairly “mature” stage. The results of the agreements are expected in the near future, as the period for concluding contracts expires on September 30.

On May 10, a closed meeting was held in Brussels with the participation of representatives of the largest defense enterprises of the European Union. During it, Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, asked participants to convey to national governments the initiative to quickly produce one million shells for Ukraine by next spring and the need to create a European stockpile of large-caliber ammunition.

The publication notes that Hellenic Defense Systems is currently unable to produce all the ammunition on its own. It has the technical ability to take over the last stage of the production chain, which covers equipment, assembly and packaging of ammunition. We are now looking for partners for the first stage, which includes the manufacture of the hull, charge and other necessary materials for ammunition.

In the spring, EU member states promised to increase the supply of artillery shells to Ukraine, as the Armed Forces of Ukraine faced a shortage of much-needed ammunition. The countries agreed on a plan worth two billion euros, which included the supply of ammunition from their stocks and the placement of joint orders for the production of shells. The goal was to transfer one million ammunition to Ukraine within 12 months.
