The 70-year-old alleged arsonist is arrested in Heraklion. He is blamed for two fires in the countryside in Faragiana, Gortyn municipality.
The man claims that he did not set it on fire on purpose, but admits that a cigarette he threw away could have caused the fire.
Eleventh of August writes ekriti.gr, a second fire broke out in the Heraklion area, allegedly caused by an arrested man. Firefighters managed to put out the fire, which burned 0.2 hectares of agricultural land. But the detained man is allegedly responsible for another fire that broke out on August 6 in the same area.
He is arrested by investigators ΔΠΥ Heraklion, ΠΚ Pyrgos, AT Pyrgos Heraklion. A case of serial arson was brought against him. Yesterday, the man appeared before the prosecutor’s office of Heraklion, and an appropriate administrative fine was imposed on him. The prosecutor also opened a criminal case against him, but let him go – the trial will take place on Monday.
