The concern of local residents was caused by the appearance of a bear in Halkidiki.
The wild animal roams freely in Taxiarchis (Chalkidiki) and causes disturbance to the local community, and also damages apiaries, destroying beehives and eating honey. A local resident filmed the bear walking along a rural road. According to halkidikinews.gr, the video of the bear was filmed from a rural road between Taxiarchi and Paleochora in Halkidiki. The wild animal appeared in early May in the mountainous Holomontas and has been causing damage to the area ever since.

In early May, Arcturos, a specialized organization dealing with wild bears in Greece, said that the area was not rich in food, and that “soon the wild animal will understand this and leave.”
Nevertheless, beekeepers and livestock breeders are outraged, since the last sighting of a bear occurred just a few days ago in a nearby livestock complex in Taxiarchis.

The president of the Taxiarchi community, Yannis Hakis, expressed concern that the bear was not one, but several. He approached the prosecutor Polygyros with a request to look into this serious issue.
