100 football hooligans brought to court


Three large prison buses and one minibus, carrying 94 Croats and 6 Greeks arrested for the incidents that tragically resulted in the death of a 29-year-old AEK fan and 12 injured, arrived at the Athenian Prosecutor’s Office, escorted by numerous police motorcycles and patrol cars.

Under draconian security measures, those arrested, overwhelmingly Croats, arrested for the bloody incidents in Nea Philadelphia, as well as 12 injured, were taken to the Evelpidon Court.

From early morning at the entrance to the court from the side of building 16, where the prosecutor’s office is located, two MAT cars were standing, and the arrested were brought to the court on three large buses and a minibus, accompanied by police motorcycles and patrol cars.

A total of 104 people were arrested, according to a police statement. Of these, according to ERT, out of 100 delivered to Evelpidon – 94 Croats and 6 Greeks. The case file has already been turned over to the prosecutor and charges are expected to be filed, reportedly on serious criminal offences.

In the meantime, five arrests of Croats by the Thespotia Police Department turned into arrests, as they intended to board a ship to go to Italy and then from there to Croatia.

In addition, on Tuesday, at about 4 pm, a 19-year-old Croat was arrested at the border station in Kakavia, who was on a bus to Tirana. After completing an investigation at the Security Sub-Directorate of Ioannina, he was arrested and sent to Athens.

According to ERT, no less than 50 “actors or participants” of these incidents while they are on the run. In this regard, the police set up roadblocks on the highway and at the border. Searches continue in AIRBNB homes, hotels and apartments.

Meanwhile, four Greeks out of 98 arrested were released on Tuesday (8/8/2023) by oral order of the prosecutor. These are the victims, three of whom testified to the Violence Prevention Unit at Sports Venues, and one was unable to testify.

At the same time, genetic material is taken from all of them for DNA in an attempt to identify the perpetrator of the murder of 29-year-old Michalis.

On August 7, a group of 150-200 initially aggressive Croats attacked the fans of the Athens AEK, among whom were women and children. Croatian hooligans came to the stadium with obvious intentions, which were evidenced by the manner of their movement, and “equipment”. They attacked with knives, folding clubs, sticks, flares, and anything else that could be used in such incidents.

A 29-year-old AEK fan died, eight were injured in the hospital. The Greek police made 96 arrests. The match between AEK and Dinamo Zagreb has been postponed.
