Landslide in Shovi: 18 dead, 18 missing, including 7-8 children


As of 13:00 on Sunday, August 6, on the fourth day after tragedy in Shovirescuers found 18 bodies of the dead, the last – a child, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

The remains of 12 people have been identified, some of them cannot be identified – families will be able to bury their loved ones only after DNA results. The search for 18 more people is ongoing, according to Irakli Kobakhidze, leader of the ruling Georgian Dream party.

During the first day, rescuers evacuated 210 people, after that, during search and rescue operations, they find only the dead, informs publication “Georgian News”. Temporary bridges have been installed in the disaster zone with the help of the military. Rescuers are working on the most difficult site, where there were dachas and cottages.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has not yet published the lists of the dead and missing. Journalists collect information through social networks, through announcements of people whose relatives rested in Shovi on the fateful day:

  • Ukrainian journalist Anna Polikovskaya was vacationing in Shovi with her husband Zaza Meskhi and three children – the woman’s body was found, her husband and children are gone. The family came to rest in Shovi from Holland, where they lived recently.
  • A Russian citizen, Ksenia Tricheva, died – a girl originally from Perm, moved to Georgia more than a year ago, worked remotely as a graphic designer.
  • The fate of three friends: relatives do not confirm the identification of Gvantsa Bubashvili and Salome Khetaguri, the family identified the body of Nino Kenchadze.

A woman, a local resident, lost her large family in Shovi – for the third day she has no information about the fate of nine relatives. During the tragedy, her brother, sister and nephews were in Shovi. The official day of mourning in Georgia has been announced for today, August 7. But most of the clubs and concert venues canceled entertainment events immediately after the tragedy in Shovi. Black Sea Arena canceled 05.08 and 06.08. concerts by Nile Rodgers and FKJ. Canceled events club Monohall. Concert of Ivan Dorn canceled in Batumi.
