A Turk has been arrested on the island of Samos and charged with a felony and leaving a victim in a hit-and-run on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim, a tourist from Switzerland, was seriously injured and died a few hours later in hospital. The victim was a 42-year-old Swiss woman who was vacationing on the island. She was reportedly riding a motorcycle when she was hit by a rental car driven by a Turk.
Passers-by found the victim lying on the road with serious injuries and called an ambulance. Despite the efforts of doctors at the local hospital, the woman died from her injuries a few hours later. The incident occurred on the 4th km of the Pythagorio-Vati road. According to information samos24.grthe driver drove into the oncoming lane and crashed into the victim’s motorcycle.
According to ANT1, the Turk was hiding in the bushes to avoid arrest. He was reportedly discovered by a dog that started barking. His owners reported this to the police, who arrived and arrested him.
local edition samosvoice.gr reported that the man is a businessman who has hired two lawyers to defend himself. On the coming Monday, he will be taken to the investigator of the prosecutor’s office and will remain in custody until a decision is made on further proceedings.
Samos police continue to investigate the cause of the fatal hit-and-run.
