In the meantime, by the beginning of September, decisions are expected on program that will apply to electricity tariffs from October, when the state of emergency mechanism that has been in place since last summer expires.

As Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis said during his visit to the Ministry of Environment and Energy: “Our concern remains the proper functioning of the market and the support of the most vulnerable households. Citizens know that this government has supported them over the past year and effectively counteracted large fluctuations in electricity prices. This is something we want to continue to do for the foreseeable future. In my speech at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), very specific announcements will be made on these issues.”

Energy bill support measures for households, vulnerable consumers and farmers were announced in August by the Ministry of Environment and Energy. In particular, subsidies for electricity in tariffs for the population, for all basic and non-basic residential services, without income criterion and regardless of the supplier, are structured as follows:

  • For monthly consumption up to 500 kWh, the subsidy will be 10 EUR/MWh. This category includes 90% of households in Greece.
  • Those with a monthly consumption of more than 500 kWh will receive the same support provided they reduce their average daily energy consumption by 15% compared to last year.
  • For households included in the Household Social Tariff (COT), the assistance is 50 EUR/MWh and covers all increased costs.
  • In addition, for farmers, regardless of power and voltage level, the assistance is 10 EUR/MWh.

The cost of electricity support for households and farmers in August is 19 million euros in total.
