Security guards at archaeological site suspended work due to heat

The Archaeological Conservation Union has decided to hold a series of work stoppages in the coming days during the peak heat that has gripped the country.

In this regard, in the period from 20 to 23 July 2023, archaeological sites will be closed at certain hours.

The Panhellenic Union of Antiquities Conservationists (PEVLA) has announced that from Thursday to Sunday, July 20-23, from 16:00 to 20:00, it will hold four-hour work stoppages at all archaeological sites that are open until 20:00. In addition, a two-hour break will be announced from 13.30 to 15.30 at archaeological sites and museums, which are open until 15.30.

“Given the problems that we have experienced in recent days at archaeological sites and especially in the Acropolis, we have unanimously decided on measures to protect the health of antiquities guards, as well as visitors,” PEVLA said in a statement. “Despite the extreme conditions faced by all antiquities guards, against the backdrop of temperatures above 45 ° C, we tried to fulfill our duties, ignoring the danger of this phenomenon,” the union added.

“There were over 20 visitors on the Acropolis, fainted, according to the state news agency amna. Guards, guides, and visitors have repeatedly complained and complained about the long wait to visit the Acropolis, which received an unprecedented number of visitors this summer.

Meteorologists predict dangerous heat with temperatures over 43°C.
