The verdict for the murderers of Alkis Kambanos was announced – life and multi-year terms

Seven murderers of Alkis Kambanos were sentenced to life imprisonment, five more received long-term prison terms.

This decision was reached by a mixed jury in Thessaloniki. He delivered the following sentences to each of the 12 defendants for killing Alka and wounding two of his friends:

• 1st defendant 27 years in prison, serve 20 years
• 2nd defendant life and an additional 20 years in prison
• 3rd defendant life and an additional 18 years in prison
• 4th defendant life and an additional 18 years in prison
• 5th defendant 24 years in prison, of which 20 years in prison
• 6th defendant 20 years in prison
• The 7th defendant received life and an additional 20 years in prison
• 8th defendant 19 years in prison
• 9th defendant life and 20 years in prison
• The 10th defendant receives life imprisonment and an additional 22 years in prison, 20 of which are suspended
• 11 defendants receive life and an additional 20 years in prison
• The 12th defendant is 22 years in prison, 20 years in prison.

All defendants were fined and banned from watching PAOK matches for five years. Appeals will have no suspensive effect, writes edition of Thestival. Upon hearing the verdicts, the relatives and friends of Alkis Kambanos burst into applause.

The earlier mixed jury of Thessaloniki did not recognize extenuating circumstances for all 12 convicted, agreeing with prosecutor Kyriakis Kliamba. The defense, meanwhile, demanded leniency for its clients, given the consequences of adolescence, sincere remorse, and subsequent good behavior.

Earlier, our publication said that the dark side of fan violence a year ago once again came to the fore most in a dramatic way: 19-year-old Aris fan Alkis Kambanos was fatally shot by hooligans from the PAOK fan club. As his friends describe, the young man had nothing to do with organized “armies” of fan clubs. And while the tragic event may have shocked Greek society, for those who closely follow what has been happening inside fan clubs lately, the fatal injury of a young man in clashes between fans of opposing teams, unfortunately, was not something out of the ordinary, rather surprising that this has not happened before.
