"First went": issued a fine for disinformation of the neural network

AI framed a man: the law firm Levidow, Levidow & Oberman PC (New York) is obliged to pay a fine assigned to it for the use of artificial intelligence.

Or rather, for the use of fake quotes generated by AI in judicial proceedings. Fine as writes Bloomberg, amounted to $5,000. This is the first such incident in the world when artificial intelligence became the cause of punishment.

You can’t blame him 100% though. As can be understood from the court verdict, the problem was that the fined lawyers deliberately ignored the signs of fakeness of the quotes issued by the neural network. Moreover, they continued to insist on the veracity of the data provided, despite the fact that they were convicted of using AI (according to Bloomberg, the ChatGPT neural network was used).

The publication’s request for comment was denied, and Bloomberg was never able to find out why lawyers trusted AI so much that they did not properly check the information.

By the way, on a note: Apple has limited the use of the ChatGPT chatbot from OpenAI and other external artificial intelligence tools for its employees, as it develops a similar technology and is worried about data leakage.

And Samsung has banned the use of generative AI tools like ChatGPT on its internal networks and on company-owned devices. She worries that uploading sensitive information to these platforms poses a security risk.
