After the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, Crimea was left without water for at least a year, problems are expected in the near future in 4 regions of southern Ukraine.
How tells BBC Russian, director of Ukrhydroenergo company Igor Sirota reported on the situation. He explained that the level in the Kakhovka storage facility had fallen below what was needed for water to flow into the Crimean Canal:
“Below 12.70 meters (the so-called “dead zone”), the fences no longer work. Under the condition of our de-occupation, we will also not be able to provide them with water at first. There will be problems with water supply.”
According to the head of the company, the authorities are considering alternative solutions to provide the population with drinking water when the current supplies run out.
On Monday, the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Igor Klymenko, said that the death toll from the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station had risen to 10, and another 42 people were considered missing, including seven children. To date data has changed – it is already known about 16 dead, 31 people are considered missing.
The death toll in the territories occupied by Russia after the breakthrough of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station rose to 17, Andrey Alekseenko, the Russian-appointed head of the Kherson region, said – by the morning of June 13, “12 deaths were confirmed in Gola Pristan and 5 in Aleshki.”
