Mitsotakis promised to create a Ministry of Family Affairs

New Democracy leader and contender for the post of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the creation of Family Ministriesif (when) he wins the upcoming elections and manages to form a one-party government. His plan was met with indignation by part of Greek society.

Speaking on Skai TV on Sunday, Mitsotakis revealed his plan to create a Ministry of Family, saying that the Ministry of Labor will be divided into two parts, and the part that deals with the family will be independent and will deal with everything related to family and welfare policy.

Until recently, these responsibilities were included in the two portfolios of Deputy Minister responsible for social security and social solidarity and Deputy Minister responsible for population policy and family affairs.

According to Mitsotakis, the Ministry of Family will become a pillar for solving the demographic issue. “This will be combined with a series of incentives to balance family and work life with special programs and funding to support specific family policies and promote equality at work between men and women,” the leader of the conservative ND said.

The plan of Mitsotakis caused outrage in in social networks, many Greeks “suspect” the Greek version of “The Handmaid’s Tale” with the ultra-conservative part of society pushing for a ban on abortion, as it was in the recent past, and a policy of protecting life with the blessing of the government. Note that abortion has been legal in Greece since the early 1980s.

On the social front, some Greeks have accused Mitsotakis of using the Ministry of the Family to create the conditions to support very conservative voters in the run-up to the June 25 elections, who could vote for small far-right parties, thereby stealing an absolute majority from him.

And the usual evil Greeks claim that with the help of a special ministry, Mitsotakis is trying to please the extreme right parties in order to gain their support in the future.

It should be recalled that there is a growing trend in Greek social networks where young (?) men and women, anonymous and unnamed users, as well as television celebrities, write in favor of the fact that a woman should serve a man who, moreover, is the sole breadwinner of her families, and such nonsense goes from early Christianity, the Middle Ages and Greece to the 1980s.

PS In this part, the really evil Greeks claimed that Mitsotakis would create a Ministry of the Family in order to create jobs for his close and extended family, which has dozens of members, as well as for their friends and acquaintances. Which, in principle, is an old Greek tradition.
