IHIF 2023: Greece at the center of the international tourism investment industry

Hellenic Investment and Foreign Trade Company (Enterprise Greece) organized 52 business meetings as well as a round table with 65 company representatives as part of the International Hotel Investment Forum, the leading event for investment in the tourism sector, which took place from 15 to 17 May in Berlin .

IHIF was organized for the 25th year in a row and brought together over 2,500 senior leaders from around the world, with 30% of them participating for the first time. He also attracted over 500 investors managing approximately $75 billionincluding ADIA, Axa IM, Bain Capital, Extendam, Hines, Pandox and Stonewge SA.

Greece took part again this year and its presence made an impressionbut also confirmed the ever-growing interest, on the one hand, to the entry into the market of more industry groups in our country, and on the other hand, to the expansion of already existing hotel chains. In the context of the conference, Enterprise Greece had a specially designed exhibition area (kiosk and booth).

Vasiliki Loizu, Secretary General for International Economic Relations and Public Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President of Enterprise Greece, said: “It is especially important that in such a forum everyone recognized the improvement of the investment climate in Greece. Especially in tourism industry, which not only survived the pandemic, but also emerged stronger from it. Greece is the “protagonist”, attracting millions of visitors and offering investment opportunities on the path to sustainable tourism development. Enterprise Greece exploits the potential of the country by highlighting its comparative advantages and creating conditions for cooperation and investment between foreign giants and Greek companies.”

The company also hosted a round table dedicated to Greece titled “Greek Resort Market: Investment, Innovation, Opportunity”, which was attended by 65 industry representatives, the number of which exceeded all expectations.

Speaking at the event, Marinos Yiannopoulos, Managing Director of Enterprise Greece, mentioned the latest developments in the Greek economy, strategic plans for the tourism industry and the excellent prospects that our country offers. “The Greek tourism product has evolved, Greece becomes a host country 12 months a year and offers new (and innovative) tourist destinations. We hope that the number of visitors reaching 30 million per year will increase. Our country is currently one of the ten best tourist destinations in the world and is an excellent investment platform for tourism“.

As noted during the discussion, hotel chains, project development companies, as well as investment funds consider Greece as a place for long-term investments, while focusing its interest on “environmental” projects with high aesthetics.
