The second round of elections on June 25 is just a short time away, and the shocking victory of New Democracy de facto determines the strategy that will be followed by the three parties that received the most votes in the May 21 elections.
New Democracy has three goals:
- Not to lose any of the 2,403,918 votes she received.
- To be able to bring back voters who may not have voted for her.
- Urge voters who never voted for her to do so now.
In short, the goal of the ruling party is not only to keep the percentage it received on Sunday, but to increase it with the prospect of getting closer to the threshold of 180 deputies, which will allow the government of the Southwest to change the constitution, if possible, on its own, without needing ” help from other parties. New Democracy is also concerned about weak voter turnout, as well as the complacency that Sunday’s election victory may have spurred.
In SYRIZA, as it turned out, they are not at all concerned about the first place in the next elections, but … maintaining the second place and preventing the possibility of the ND reaching 180 deputies, which could lead to the complete and unconditional power of Mitsotakis.
The danger of a “full revival” of PASOK-KINAL, which looks like a winner in recent hours, has made SYRIZA worried. In addition, the SYRIZA leadership knows that most of their constituents were previously PASOK constituencies. In other words, these are the voters who traditionally voted for PASOK, but during the difficult years of the memorandum, they switched to SYRIZA, which turned from a party with 3% to a party with 36% in 2015, eventually coming to power.
As for PASOK, N. Androulakis may say that he wants to prevent the possibility of “omnipotence” of the ND, but his first goal is to ruthlessly strike an electoral blow at SYRIZA. For the first time in 10 years, PASOK has the opportunity to claim second place if SYRIZA’s “fall” continues.
20% SYRIZA with 11.5% PASOK represents a new condition for PASOK, the politically correct management of which can bring the strategic goal closer and the much-desired “reversal” of political relations.
“The first election results refer to the self-evident recognition that ‘PASOK is back, rejuvenated, united and strong’, as N. Androulakis said in a statement the day before yesterday to indicate that his party now has more comparative advantages than in the (recent) past .
