Tragedy with Belgian tourists: ATV collided head-on with a truck

A shocking car accident occurred at noon on Friday 19 May in Rhodes, on the way from Tsayri to the airport.

According to the local publication “Ροδιακή”, the accident occurred in a head-on collision of a four-wheeled vehicle (ATV) with a small truck carrying building materials. Upon impact, both vehicles caught fire.

An ambulance was immediately called to the scene for 5 wounded, two of whom were in serious condition. Also, three vehicles of the Rhodes fire service and the police arrived at the scene of the accident.

The accident caused a long traffic jam of waiting cars in both traffic streams. The Rhodes traffic police brigade worked at the scene. Employees recorded full data on the accident, and also figured out the situation in which it arose.

A 33-year-old Belgian, an ATV driver, died in a Rhodes hospital a few hours later, and his 28-year-old wife underwent emergency surgery.
