It takes 2 to 2.5 hours to get close to ancient Oyanti (i.e. today’s Galaxidi). This city of Phokis, located on the left bank of the Gulf of Itea, is an ideal place for excursions and relaxation. Once the region’s most famous trading port, today it’s a popular summer weekend getaway. The visitor will plunge into this “glorious past” from the first minute when he gets to Galaxidi. Majestic captain’s houses, flowering courtyards and picturesque streets testify to the “prosperous” origin of this place.
Picturesque Galaxidi is built between two hills, at a point surrounded by sea and mountains. Walking along its narrow streets, you will notice that everything leads to the sea.
Apart from the walks and stops that you will make in Galaxidi town itself, you should not miss anything else. There are many attractions in the vicinity, such as the “navel of the Earth”, i.e. Delphi. In addition, Phokis also has the largest bell tower in Greece, which can be heard even from 100 kilometers away.
If the weather is good, you will definitely swim. One of the worthy ones is the Galaxidi Nautical Club beach (Ναυτικού Ομίλου Γαλαξιδίου), which is located next to the city port.
