Kallithea Deputy Mayor Lazaros Laskaridis has died at the age of 55 following a serious accident 12 days ago when he fell from a balcony.
The accident happened on April 27, his birthday, while he was at an event at the city’s public library. At some point, he went out to the inner balcony of the building to smoke.
He leaned on the railing, which was poorly secured and fell from a height of about four meters. As a result of the fall, Lazaros Laskaridis was seriously injured. Firefighters immediately arrived at the scene, who, not without difficulty, managed to extract him from the place where he fell, as it turned out to be difficult to access.
Laskaridis was hospitalized in the hospital “Gennimatas”, as having received multiple injuries, in a coma, with a brain contusion, fractures of the cervical and thoracic spine, as well as fractures of the ribs.
Today (05/08/2023) it is announced that he passed away 12 days after the accident, plunging his entire family into mourning. Lawyer and friend of Lazaros Laskaridis, Dimitris Bolis, filed a complaint: “I filed a lawsuit, I saw – there were publications that the railing on which he leaned against was rusty, this can be seen in some photographs, that is, that this open area is not what it is There should have been. A preliminary police investigation is already underway under the supervision of the prosecutor, and we are waiting for who will be held responsible and how it will be personified, because it seems that this place was treated negligently, it clearly does not comply with the planning rules. “
Residents in the area said the railing looked unsafe and corroded, but on the other hand said the building was inspected by a tech company and no problems were found. So we hope that those who checked this place “for compliance with safety regulations” will also be held accountable.
The municipality of Kallithea declared three days of mourning in connection with the death of Lazarus Laskaridis and noted the valuable work of the deputy mayor for culture, which left an indelible mark on the life of the municipality.
