On May 2, the Supreme Court of Greece decides on the fate of the party "Hellenes" And "ΕΑΝ"

Today, May 2, the final decision of the Supreme State Council of Greece (Supreme Court) is expected, which will decide whether the party of Ilias Kasidiaris “Έλληνες“and party”ΕΑΝAnastasios Kanellopoulos in national elections or they will be excluded from the process because of an unconstitutional (so most constitutionalists believe) government decree.

Probability that the “party of Kasidiaris” will be excluded from the elections, much higher than if it didn’t..

Concerning “ΕΑΝ“, then PASOK’s appeal, which presents it as “associated” with the “Kasidiaris party”, will be considered and fully

The question is, what will all those frustrated right-wing voters do who cannot express their anger against the Mitsotakis government through a right-wing party organization?

Some of them are even ready to vote for SYRIZA in defiance of the New Democracy, despite the openly demonstrated disdain for the “left”. The rest will just refrain.

According to political scientists, about quarters of “pure” right-wing voters will choose to vote for the opposition party, despite the ideological divide that separates them, in order to somehow punish the Mitsotakis government.

If we take into account that 7-8% of the electorate can vote for the “Party of Kasidiaris”, and other right-wing parties that were excluded in the previous days, and all together with difficulty, gain about 2% of the vote (due to the decline in electoral influence ” Greek solution”, Ελληνικής Λύσης) and the recent crisis by about 2%, then remains about 12% of the electorate, which turns out outside of direct “electoral choice”.

A quarter of them correspond to 3%, which is enough to decide which party will be the first in the elections.

According to the election schedule, until midnight May 2 the open session of the Plenum of Division A1 of the Supreme Court will end, where all party combinationswho will take part in the national elections on May 21, 2023.

In previous days, New Democracy and PASOK-KINAL filed petitions to the Supreme Court against the participation of the “Greeks” party (“Έλληνες“) in the parliamentary elections.

In particular, government spokesman Akis Skertsos said that “New Democracy filed a memorandum with the A1 division of the Supreme Court against the announcement of the party – “Έλληνες“(Greeks) party to upcoming elections.”

For its part, PASOK noted that its own memorandum “still puts the Kanellopoulos-Cassidiaris court decision on the table to consider whether it concerns the party EAN“.

Thus, PASOK wants the party of the former Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Anastasios Kanellopoulos, to be excluded from the electoral process.

A total of 38 parties, 10 coalitions and two individual candidates, registered for the May 21 elections. This is a record 50 positions on the ballot, twice as many as in the 2019 elections.

The “Patriotic Union” (“Πατριωτική Ενωση”) of Emfietzoglu-Bogdanu, the “Patrida” (“Πατρίδα”) of Aphroditi Latinopoulou and the “Greek Christian Democrats” κράτες”) by Nikos Nikolopoulos.

In particular:

– “Patriotic Union” Emfietzoglu-Bogdanu was disqualified after a complaint filed by one of the registered parties for stealing the name and using the “Sun of Vergina” as its emblem, although the use of national symbols is known to be prohibited by law.

– Konstantinos Bogdanos, for his part, filed an appeal against “Patrida” Aphrodite Latinopoulou and “National Creation” (“Εθνική Δημιουργία”) Tzimeros-Kranidiotis.

In the first case, the appeal was accepted by the Supreme Court and the party of Latinoopulu was disqualified, while the appeal against the “National Creation” was rejected.

– “National Creation” Tsimeros – Kranidioti filed an appeal against the KKE, in which they claim that the actions of Perisos are contrary to the Greek constitution.

In the right wing, they gradually realized that they should have united in the elections.

Kyriakos Velopoulos and Konstantinos Bogdanos, in their statements and messages (now), emphasize the need for parties that have already been withdrawn from participation in the elections or are expected to be excluded by the Supreme Court to work together to participate as a coalition of forces in the second elections in July.

In particular, the president of the “Greek Solution” speaks of a “pan-Greek army” of all right-wing forces that have been illegally reduced in the Supreme Court to crush the corrupt leadership of the New Democracy! Don’t act like you did in the 2nd century BC when the Romans were beating the Greeks and the Greeks were killing each other! So the Romans enslaved all the Greeks.”

For his part, Mr. Bogdanos was quick to comment that Velopoulos’ statement “to create a common patriotic alliance of parties after the 21/5 elections is in the right direction and demonstrates political maturity. In the next parliament, which brings suffering for Hellenism, there must be a strong and strong national opposition”.

The question is, will they be able to create this coalition by the second round of elections?
