Trikala hail the size of a hazelnut

Large hail fell in the districts of Trikala, mainly to the east of the city, where the surroundings were covered with a white veil.

According to the first assessments of the competent authorities, the damage caused to various crops by the last hail in Trikala Prefecture was significant.

The cyclone that passed over Greece brought many problems in Trikala, as in many other parts of the country. Heavy clouds, mostly in the east of Trikala, brought hail the size of hazelnuts. According to trikalaola.gr, in the village of Georganades in the municipality of Farkadona, the fields were covered with hail.

Two teams, consisting of agronomists from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Veterinary Medicine of the Trikala Regional Branch and ELGA Larissa, visited the affected areas and made a first assessment of the extent and amount of damage.

In the local communities of Logos, Ag. Kyriakis, Glinous, Mag Kalibion ​​and Faneromeni, according to the Trikala regional office, the total area of ​​crops damaged by hail is estimated at 5,000 hectares in the local communities of Vasiliki, Megarchi and Mikro Kefalovrissos. Damage was caused to fields with cotton, alfalfa, corn, melons, grapes, as well as orchards with fruit trees.

“In order to cope with the effects of extreme weather events on the crops in question and to support growers, we have requested an expedited damages individualization process from ELGA after the end of the announcement in the municipality. Producers should be compensated immediately,” said Trikala Deputy Governor Christos Michalakis.
