How tells BB.LV, to adopt a new law prompted increased cases of vandalism. Unscrupulous tourists damage cultural sites using paint and other substances. Protesters do not lag behind them during various actions. The Minister of Culture said in a statement:
“Attacks on monuments and art objects cause economic damage to everyone. Their cleaning requires the intervention of highly specialized personnel and the use of very expensive machines. Whoever commits these acts must also take financial responsibility.”
The fine for vandalism, as stipulated by the new law, will start at 10,000 euros and can go up to 60,000 euros.
