Mikheil Saakashvili, the former president of Georgia, wrote in an article for Politico that his health had “drastically deteriorated” in detention and he was now “dying.”
The ex-president also spoke about torture and called himself a political prisoner:
“I have been systematically tortured, physically and psychologically, and currently have signs of heavy metal poisoning in my body. I now suffer from a staggering array of over 20 serious illnesses, all of which developed in detention.”
Saakashvili emphasized in the article that he was a “healthy, energetic 54-year-old man” when he returned to Georgia in October 2021, and is crying out for help:
“It is becoming increasingly clear that I will die soon if I do not receive proper medical care outside the country.”
Saakashvili called on the US and the international community to “do everything possible to save his life by putting diplomatic pressure on the Georgian government.” At the end of March, Giuli Alasania, Mikheil Saakashvili’s mother, said that the weight of the ex-president of Georgia had fallen to a critically low level. Earlier, former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said in an interview with Politico that he was “poisoned by Russian agents.”
Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia, believes that Saakashvili was sent to Georgia by the Ukrainian authorities in order to organize a coup in the country and drag the country into the conflict, writes BB.LV.
