Parked, blocking the entrance to the garage, get a fine

Searching for parking spaces is a daily Calvary for many drivers, and some are forced to leave their car at random and anywhere. Nevertheless, there are strictly established rules, for violation of which you face a fine.

Driving in large urban centers is not a pleasant process, and if the driver is looking for a place to park his car, then everything becomes even more difficult. The most common fine, which you can find (taped to your windshield) when you get back to your car, concerns the “parking in an unintended place“. Sometimes this happens because of the rush, as a result of which we do not see the prohibition sign or the corresponding lane on the roadway.

On the other hand, if we don’t find the right and safe place to park our car relatively quickly, we get nervous and end up somehow docking the vehicle “for a minute” (which can turn into an hour), thereby breaking the law.

According to the SDA, stopping and parking are allowed only if they do not create danger and do not interfere with the movement of vehicles, and, of course, if there are no appropriate prohibition signs or markings on the roadway, or if the entrance to a private parking lot is not closed (not blocked ).

Illegal stopping and parking is punishable by the K.O.K. (SDA) fines, and depending on the severity of the offense, you can lose your driver’s license and license plates for a certain period of time. The basic administrative fine for blocking the entrance to a parking lot (garage) is up to 80 euros with the forced removal (using a crane) of the car from this place and the withdrawal of license plates for 10 days.

However, if we “close” an exclusive or shared parking space for people with disabilities, then K.O.K. makes the sentences even harsher. Those who commit this offense should be aware that their punishable by the removal of license plates and rights on the spot for 60 days. The fine is 200 euros.

Finally for all specific violations the driver receives up to 9 penalty points. And if it seems to you that such a trifle is punished so severely, do not flatter yourself. In Greece, there were even cases when a neighbor killed a compatriot only because he “had the audacity to park his car in front of his house.”
