Carnival: this year’s garbage volume is more than ever

The mayor of the city of Patras, Kostas Peletidis, thanked the public utilities, who, in the sweat of their faces, collected tons of garbage left on the streets of the city after the carnival.

This year, according to the municipality’s cleaning service, the volume of garbage was greater than in any other year. Broken bottles, plastic packaging and leftover food littered the city center hours after Sunday’s carnival procession.

Early on the morning of Clean Monday, the municipality’s cleaning crew made a gigantic effort so that the citizens could celebrate Kulum (Κούλουμα) in the city’s tattered clean streets. According to lifo.grdue to the large amount of garbage, “heavy equipment of special capacities” was used to remove it.

Mayor Patr, in a Facebook post, thanked the cleaners for their “hard work” for the benefit of the community. This year, about 50,000 guests came to the city for the celebration.
