The European Union has summed up and calculated the losses from extreme weather events over the past ten years.
How informs BB.LV, from 2010 to 2020 Europe suffered losses of 145 billion euros. Data provided by the Statistical Office EU. To such huge economic losses, the authors of the report argue Eurostatbrought phenomena such as heat waves, hurricanes and floods.
Europe has been particularly hard hit by extreme weather, only this year, according to the Swedish TV companies SVT, 15,000 people died from the heat. Eurostat data show that France, Ireland and Greece have suffered the most.
Greece has the highest economic losses per capita – 91 euros. This is three times higher than the EU average. It is followed by France (62 euros) and Ireland (42 euros). The least economically affected by extreme weather were Bulgaria (€0.7 per person), Slovenia and Slovakia (€4 in both countries).
