Student Housing Benefit: All Changes

The student housing allowance for beneficiaries has been officially increased by 50%.

The amount granted varies from EUR 1,000 to EUR 1,500 and it is specified that if the beneficiary lives with another student in the same rented accommodation, the annual housing allowance is set at EUR 2,000. In fact, it is expressly stated that this provision also applies to benefit recipients who have applied for the 2021-2022 school year.

In particular, the Ministry of Education has made some changes to the process of submitting supporting documents for student housing subsidies.

Especially for the 2021-2022 academic year, the procedure for providing additional information on the provision of housing allowance in the case of cohabitation for those beneficiaries who submitted an application through the Information System for a particular academic year will be determined.

An application for a housing allowance based on the academic ID number of a student living with another student receives the following data from the academic ID information system of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs:

  • FULL NAME. student.
  • Educational institution (department, faculty/institute).
  • Date of admission of the student to the university (year / month).
  • Location of the educational institution.
  • The number of years of study at the university, based on the code of the rental agreement for housing that the student rents.
  • Inclusion of the TIN declared for a fellow student in the lease agreement.

The criteria for receiving a cohabiting student allowance are as follows:

  • The student roommate has no other higher education.
  • The neighbor-student did not exceed the term of the academic semesters provided for by the Regulations on Education.
  • The student roommate is studying at the same city or state institution as the student for whom the student housing allowance is being applied for.
  • ΑΦΜ student who was submitted on behalf of another student is the same as AFM a cohabiting student, or include the student on the (income) return as a “guest”.
  • The student housing allowance rental application includes the AFM number of the student partner.
