Change from October 1st "silence hours"

From today, Saturday October 1st, the “public quiet hours” are changing as (despite the summer weather) we are entering the “winter” season.

Standard “hours of silence” in the winter season is the time from 15:30 to 17:30 and from 22:00 to 07:30. During this time, the following activities are prohibited by Greek law:

Work or other activity that creates noise. In exceptional cases of extreme necessity, which cannot be postponed, with the special reasoned permission of the head of the relevant police department, work may be allowed, especially for domestic purposes, that violate the silence.

The operation of any musical instrument or radio, tape recorder or television at high volume, shouting, festivities and any other noisy events in residential or other private premises.

Singing, using musical instruments, operating radios, tape recorders and television screens on the streets, squares and in general in public places of residential areas, as well as in public transport.

Noisy games in coffee houses, bowling alleys or other public places, as well as screams and heated discussions of the regulars of these centers.

Noisy discussions and arguments in car parks (BUS, TAXI, etc.), loading or unloading goods (to or from) trucks that create noise, as well as loud motorcycle engines, etc.

The use of sirens or other sound devices or security systems without an emergency reason, as well as their test operation.

The winter hours of public silence begin on October 1 and end on March 31, while the summer hours last from April 1 to September 30.
