Every second Greek will not go on vacation this year

How will the Greeks spend the three-day weekend that took place in the last month of summer? The joyful mood of the townspeople, anticipating the rest, was poisoned by the “negative imprint” of inflation.

With prices rising to 12.1%, the combined cost of a holiday (living and fuel) shot up, with the result that most people can only afford to leave the city for a few days. Which also confirms the traffic on the streets of Athens. In other years, the streets were completely empty.

“With the increase in the cost of electricity, rent and goods, a family of four like us cannot go on vacation this year,” Mr. Panagiotis says in an interview. Dnews. Even for those who have houses (dachas) outside the city in nearby places, it is now difficult to leave and stay there for more than five days. “There is no point in going to our dacha in Porto Rafti and being inside the house. The cost of fuel, food, as well as prices on the beaches, do not allow us to go even there,” say the Athenians.

Every second Greek will not go on vacation this year. According to a survey by the Greek Business and Retail Association, 48% of citizens say they will not take a vacation this summer.

22% of Greeks say they will still take a few days to rest, and only 13% say they will do the same thing they do every year.

Concerning estimated vacation expenses in 2022It is estimated that it will decrease by 17% on average. At the same time, the majority of 35% stated that they cut their costs by more than 35%.

The main factor influencing the number of days of rest, or even the rejection of summer vacation this year: decrease in disposable income of citizens, due to higher prices for products in general, as well as significantly increased energy costs.

The increase in the cost of travel and tickets for transport to the place of rest by 52%, as well as by 23% of the cost of living, also played a negative role.
