Healing Greece: sage tea

One of the varieties of mountain tea, so loved by the inhabitants of Greece, is medicinal sage (Φασκομηλιά). Possessing a peculiar aroma, the drink is consumed both hot and cold.

Sage is a mystical spice. Different peoples in different eras called it the “savior of life”, “sacred herb” or “grass of immortality.” Egyptian healers endowed the plant with magical properties, the Greeks prepared “Greek tea” from it and believed that it strengthens the mind, and the Romans treated infertility with medicinal sage.

Storehouse of vitamins and antioxidants. Rosmarinic acid, which is found in sage leaves, has powerful antioxidant properties – it protects cells from free radical damage, activates the body’s natural defenses and slows down the aging process. In addition, the plant boasts a high content of vitamin K, which is necessary for strong bones, healthy blood vessels and protein synthesis in the body.

In medicine, the pharmacological properties of sage are used: disinfectant, diuretic, local anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, sedative, antiseptic, expectorant, antipyretic, astringent and reduces sweating.

Tea with addition sage helps in strengthening the immune system, fighting fatigue, digestive problems. It is drunk in order to calm the nervous system, reduce the severity of fever, and eliminate headaches.

But brew sage in its pure form, you should only follow the recommendations of a doctor and drink a course. Therefore, if you like the aroma and taste of sage, the best option is to try black tea with the addition of its leaves and flowers. Such a drink can be drunk every day, having fun and a lot of health benefits.

Tea with sage helps control blood sugar levels. Elevated glucose is a problem for most modern people. Surges in sugar levels not only increase hunger and lead to weight gain, but can also provoke a number of serious chronic diseases. Clinical studies have shown that regular consumption of sage tea reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 20%.
