"Lukashenka is no longer a guarantor": Tikhanovskaya declared herself president

Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who calls herself the leader of the Belarusian opposition, has actually declared herself the head of the Republic of Belarus.

In a statement published by the German edition DW, says: “I, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, on the basis of the powers given to me by the Belarusian people as a result of the presidential elections in 2020, take on the responsibility from today to protect the independence and national interests of the Republic of Belarus. I will be the representative of the Belarusian people, the guarantor of their rights and freedoms until new elections. She stated that she intends to create a transitional cabinet as a national body of the Republic of Belarus.

As Tikhanovskaya explained, “this morning Russia attacked Ukraine in violation of the fundamental principles of international law. Belarusian territory and the Armed Forces of Belarus were involved in this treacherous act of aggression.”

According to Tikhonovskaya, President Lukashenko and his regime are fully responsible for unleashing the war together with the Russian president: “The illegitimate leader of Belarus brought in foreign troops and made our country a direct participant in the conflict. This is treason and betrayal of the interests of our people and the Belarusian state.”

Svetlana Georgievna Tikhanovskaya is a Belarusian politician, candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Belarus in the 2020 elections. According to the officially announced results of the elections held on August 9, 2020, Tikhanovskaya won just over 10% of the vote, finishing in second place. Nevertheless, having received support from Western countries, she declared herself acting president of Belarus.
