One-day vacation on Lake Doxa in mountainous Corinth

A trip with the whole family to an artificially created mountain lake, whose turquoise waters reflect the majestic peak of Durduvan and the mixed forests of mountain Corinth, can be a wonderful outdoor recreation.

Lake Doxa (λίμνη Δόξα) is located at an altitude of 900 meters in Ancient Feneo (Corinth). Its construction was completed in the late 1990s (the dam of the Doksa River, which flows in the area). The length of the coast, characterized by the alternation of landscapes with rocks, wetlands and reeds, reaches 3.8 km. This is a relatively deep lake for its small size, as the depth reaches 40 meters.

In the past, the lake overflowed its banks several times, flooding the Feneos plain and destroying crops. In the center of the reservoir is the church of Agios Fanourios, which communicates with the mainland by a narrow strip of land.

The chapel celebrates on August 27 the name day of the saint, as well as Fota (Baptism), when the waters of the lake are blessed. There used to be a monastery here. Georgios, but due to flooding, it was moved a short distance from its original location, to a nearby hill.

Doksa, although artificial, is considered one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Greece. Now, in winter, the frosty treetops reflected in its emerald waters create a magnificent view. Over the years, the lake has developed into an important ecotourism attraction.
