The details of the US special operation to eliminate the leader of the Islamic State Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, which was described by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, have been revealed.
The details of the special operation were revealed at a briefing by John Kirby, a spokesman for the Pentagon. Approximately 20 American special forces, combat and landing helicopters, attack UAVs were involved in it.
Kirby confirmed that three civilians were killed in the operation. According to preliminary information, these are members of the terrorist’s family who were next to him. Al-Quraishi blew himself up in the room, in the presence of his two children and wife.
John Kirby added that at the beginning of the operation, the commandos, through loudspeakers, in Arabic, called on the women and children to leave the house. More than 10 people, including children, were taken out and rescued before the assault.
In the building where the IS leader was located, there were traces of a fierce battle: a partially collapsed roof, torn windows, blood-splattered floors and charred ceilings. Resistance was offered from home with the use of heavy machine guns and grenade launchers.
Lloyd Austin, US Secretary of Defense, said he was proud of US special forces: “The professionalism, skill and readiness of our troops have dealt a serious blow to ISIS and helped make life in our country safer for our fellow citizens.”
