The Green/Ecological Taxi program, which will subsidize the replacement of a conventional vehicle with an electric car, was introduced by Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Kostas Karamanlis.
Speaking at the 5th conference (“5ο Συνέδριο Ηλεκτροκίνησης”), Mr. Karamanlis stated that “electrification is a key element in the development of transport in Greece, and the first line of planning of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is the renewal of the aging car fleet.” This, according to him, applies to all types of vehicles, that is, cars, taxis, as well as public transport.
How will the Green Taxi program work?
Mr. Karamanlis announced in this context that “specially for the renewal of the taxi fleet, we are preparing a special new program – “Πράσινα Ταξί”. At the same time, the replacement of old vehicles that pollute the environment with “clean”, electric ones will be financed. The total subsidy for taxis could exceed 20,000 euros, he said.
The goal of the program is a sustainable and viable alternative that will decarbonize the aging car fleet, contributing to “improving urban air quality”.
