The European Union approved vaccinations for children 5-11 years old, recommending Pfizer / BioNTech for this.
The dose of the drug for them will be 1/3 of that used in the age group from 12 years old (10 mcg versus 30 mcg). On Thursday, November 25, the press service of the regulator announced the decision of the European Medicines Agency:
“The EMA Human Medicines Committee has recommended expanding indications for the COVID-19 Comirnaty vaccine to include its use in children aged 5 to 11.”
Children will need, like adults, two doses of the vaccine at 3-week intervals. The injection is given intramuscularly.
The Committee notes that a study of the vaccine among children in this age group has confirmed a similar response of the immune system as with the introduction of a standard dose at an older age.
