USA: vaccination of children from 5 years of age starts

From next week in the United States will begin to vaccinate children aged 5-11 years. The process of sending 15 million doses of vaccine to Pfizer is underway, Jeff Zientes, White House Coronavirus Coordinator, told Reuters yesterday during an online press conference.

Our publication reported that clinical trial results the effects of Pfizer vaccine on children over five years of age confirm its safety. 4500 children from six months to 11 years old participated in clinical studies, 2268 of them were over 5 years old. The vaccine administration schedule is similar to that used for adults – 2 doses with an interval of 21 days. Each child dose contains 10 mcg of the vaccine, which is one third of the adult dose. The immune response in children is the same as in young people 16-25 years old who receive 30 μg of the vaccine.

Last Friday, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5-11. This decision made it the first Covid-19 vaccine approved for use in young children in the United States.

The use of Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine in children aged 5 to 11 has begun to be evaluated by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Manufacturing companies reported that the vaccine elicits a strong immune response in children aged 5 to 11 years in clinical trials involving 2,268 people. From my side EMA statedto review vaccine-related data, including the results of an ongoing clinical trial.

Earlier we wrote about the impact of the pandemic on psychological state of children… The scary footage that TV and the Internet abound in gives them the impression of a permanent crisis. They are not always able to distinguish what they see on the screen from reality, so many have a sense of danger. The most vulnerable are those who suffer the most, as family disturbances and financial hardships intensify, children have limited access to counseling services and fewer electronic means to “connect” with their school.
