Archbishop Elpidophor makes excuses for participating in the opening of the “Turkish Center” in New York

The head of the American Archdiocese of Phanar, Archbishop Elpidophoros (Lambriniadis), said that he regretted the pain that he unwittingly inflicted on the Cypriot brothers by his participation in the opening of the Turkish Center in New York. He wrote about this on your Facebook page September 24.

According to him, he understands very well the pain, feelings and reactions of his Cypriot brothers, but his presence at the event had the same goal as always, namely “honest and courageous dialogue in the name of peace and protection of religious freedom.”

“As a Greek from Istanbul, my family and I have experienced the dire consequences of the expulsion from the homes of our ancestors, as well as many of my compatriots, as well as the Imbrians and Tenedians, due to the next escalation of the Cyprus problem in the 70s. I grew up with this pain, therefore I understand the pain of our Cypriot brothers, as well as their feelings and reactions, and I consider them an expression of the pain of people who have lost everything: property, homeland, dreams, family, relatives.

Therefore, I want to declare to everyone that my presence at the event on Monday could never be a recognition of disaster, refugee, occupation. My presence has always had the same constant orientation: honest and courageous dialogue in the name of peace and the defense of religious freedom. We are all united in upholding our national interests, each in his own way and in his own role. But they are united, committed to one goal.

“I sincerely regret the pain I unwittingly inflicted on my Cypriot and Greek-American brothers, especially my beloved flock. I pray that a just and sustainable solution will be found in Cyprus, as the Cypriot people expect, on the basis of international law and the protection of human rights, in accordance with UN resolutions, and I am working in this direction, ”the Phanar hierarch wrote and stressed that the American the archdiocese is always “beside Hellenism everywhere, defending its aspirations.”

The presence of the head of the Phanar Archdiocese in the United States at the opening of the “Turkish Center” in New York, together with the heads of Turkey and the so-called. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has caused a serious scandal in the Greek, Cypriot and Armenian communities. It was also reported that the President of Cyprus canceled a meeting with him, but the Greek Prime Minister still agreed to hold a “closed meeting” with the Phanar hierarch in the United States, as reported by the newspaper Katimerini

It is noted that channels on both sides were still open until late at night, and behind-the-scenes communication was in full swing to find a “neutral” meeting place. Earlier, government spokesman G. Ikonoma, speaking to SKAI, essentially announced the meeting, saying: “I think there will be a meeting

Opposition and members of the ruling ND supported Edpidophoros

Recalling that the Archdiocese of America belongs to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, ex-Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos cynically characterized the government’s position as “short-sighted” and stated that “the public-political criticism of the Ecumenical Patriarchate by the Greek government is short-sighted.

“Rather than making simple and popular anti-Turkish footage using the Ecumenical Patriarchate, it would be preferable for the Greek and Cypriot governments to highlight the unresolved issues raised by the Patriarchate spokesman’s statement at a ceremony in New York,” he added.

MP Dora Bakogiannis wrote on Twitter: “We must not forget that Elpidophoros represents the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which is located in Constantinople. [Стамбуле]and that the archbishops are citizens of Turkey. Therefore, the Patriarchate must maintain a balance. ”

I understand that the de facto recognition of the Republic of Northern Cyprus is called the balance? The Cypriots will now swallow what happened, and later they will somehow recall the treacherous position of the “elder brother”.

As in the case of recognition of the tomos of the OCU, so in this event there is a conciliatory and treacherous policy of the authorities of Greece and Phanar.

However, what happened once again confirms the fact that, speaking of the Phanar, we mean another structure related to the Turkish state and entirely subordinate to Muslim Turkey.

As they say, nothing personal, just business.
