Rospotrebnadzor (formerly the Russian Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision) said on its website today that it is impossible to determine the strain of coronavirus by symptoms – it requires decoding of the virus genome in laboratory conditions.
TASS quotes the published message:
By external signs, it is impossible to determine what exactly a person is infected with. This can only be found by sequencing (that is, decoding in the laboratory) of the genome of the virus or its fragment (S-protein gene). And then, by the presence of key mutations, identify the strain.
The experts of the department remind that the course of the disease when infected with the Delta variant is rapid and, as a rule, severe or moderately severe. Asymptomatic cases are much less common. Therefore, patients require longer and more complex treatment.
Based on the results of the studies carried out to date, experts indicate that the protective effect of vaccination in the case of Delta is reduced. Rospotrebnadzor experts recommend re-vaccination every six months to minimize the possibility of infection with new strains.
