The European Union imposed sanctions against Iran (video)

The European Union imposed sanctions against Iran for the transfer of drones and missiles to Russia. The sanctions list includes three Iranian airlines and Iran's deputy defense minister.

IN EU Council Regulation dated October 14 it says on the introduction of restrictive measures against seven individuals and seven legal entities of Iran. This list includes individuals responsible for transferring technology to Russia to support its war against Ukraine, as well as for sending weapons to groups and organizations that undermine peace and security in the Middle East and Red Sea region.

The list includes three Iranian airlines: Saha Airlines, Mahan Air and Iran Air. Two were sanctioned fuel production companieswhich is used to launch rockets.

Among the sanctioned individuals are Deputy Minister of Defense Seyed Hamze Galandari, a number of members of the Al-Quds Forces – special forces within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), representatives of the most important command center of the Iranian armed forces – the central base of Khatam al-Anbiya, the space division of the IRGC, as well as managing directors of Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries and Aerospace Industries Organization.

Individuals included in the sanctions list have their assets frozen in the European Union and are prohibited from entering the country EU. In addition, it is unacceptable to provide them with funds or economic resources of the European Community.

On September 13, the European Union strongly condemned the transfer of Iranian-made ballistic missiles to Russia, considering it as a direct threat to European security and as a significant material escalation. AP reported on September 8 that the United States informed its allies about the likely transfer of Iranian short-range ballistic missiles to Russia. In addition, Iranian Shahed drones have long been used by the Russian army to launch attacks on the territory of Ukraine.

TASS Agency notesthat, according to information from the management of the Iranian Air Carriers Association, the national flag carrier Iran Air, until recently the only one with the right to fly to EU countries, is forced to stop its European routes. Industry experts note that such a decision will have a significant impact on passenger traffic between Iran and Europe. Previously direct flights of Iranian airlines will now be replaced by the services of foreign carriers. For Iranian travelers, this means inevitably more complex itineraries with the need for transit stops in countries such as Türkiye or the United Arab Emirates.
