Greece: Arrests for theft of motorcycles and spare parts

Three people, aged 18, 21 and 24, have been arrested for thefts of motorcycles and spare parts in Athens and Mykonos.

The Greek police opened a case against them on several counts: organizing a criminal group, aggravated theft, conspiracy and aiding and abetting, forgery of documents, and violation of the K.O.K. law.

The criminals would inspect the locations of the two-wheelers and, bypassing various security measures, steal them. The motorcycles would then be taken to a special location where, using the means at their disposal, the thieves would alter the identification data – chassis and engine numbers – to make it difficult to check the vehicles during a possible investigation.

Two young men have been arrested in recent days on the provincial roads of Mykonos by the Mykonos Police Department, driving stolen motorcycles without number plates, writes CNN Greece: 18-year-old caught making dangerous maneuvers while 21-year-old didn't have a driver's license.

During the preliminary investigation it was established that the two motorcycles were given to their co-defendants, a 24-year-old man and another person who is a member of the organization, who appears in the case materials. According to the investigation, members of the organization are involved in three high-profile motorcycle thefts in Athens and Mykonos, as well as in five cases of forgery of motorcycle engines and chassis. During the searches the following were found and seized:

• 5 two-wheeled vehicles, one of the motorcycles was listed as stolen and the others had no chassis numbers;
• 3 frames and 13 motorcycle engines;
• the number plate corresponding to the two-wheeled vehicle that is wanted after being stolen;
• a pair of license plates that were reported stolen,
• tools – drill, milling wheel;
• 3 mobile phones and a driving license.

The confiscated driver's license will be sent to the issuing authority, evidence of criminal activity – to the competent workshop of the Criminal Investigation Department for examination, other parts and spare parts – to a special customs office for storage. The arrested persons will be delivered to the competent prosecutor's office.
